You were taught how to do the work. You were never taught how to position the work.

What I'm Seeing

Heavy times in the job market right now. But I promise this note today is NOT doom and gloom. Stick with me!

I had coffee with someone last week who kept telling me “Laura, I just can't get traction."

Director-level. Fifteen years of experience. Super impressive resume.

And I could feel it. That familiar weight of being qualified but invisible.

After conducting 30,000+ interviews trust me I know how hiring decisions get made…and like it or not, it’s not always fair. I see GREAT talent getting passed over all the time because they haven’t worked on themselves.

You see it’s not about what you’ve done. It's about how you position what you’ve done.

Which requires reflective thinking, pattern recognition and someone that challenges you to actually see your own brilliance (it's a staggering amount of ppl who don’t see their brilliance, btw)

You were taught how to do the work. You were never taught how to position the work.

Career transition is BROKEN and it isn't an application problem.

It's a positioning and sales problem.

The paradox….you've spent your entire career selling products, services, teams, and ideas. But you've never learned how to sell yourself.

But here’s the super good news, you can learn how to do that.

Decision-makers are asking themselves: "Why you, for this moment, for this problem?"

Can you answer that?

Your Turn

Do you know what makes you special? I mean, really, really special?

That’s the work. Your inner posture has to match the outer posture.

And if you say something in an interview and the person you’re speaking to can’t FEEL or be MOVED by the way you’d go about solving their problems….they are moving on.

You’ve got to KNOW what you do better than anyone else. You’ve got to be memorable.
