The Comparison Program (And Why I Don't Need to Break Free From It)
Just one day after my book launch, what should have been pure celebration, I found myself spiraling into comparison mode.
There I was, scrolling Instagram (mistake number one), when I saw an author with over a million followers. That familiar feeling rippled through my body: You're never going to be as successful as this person.
All of a sudden, my incredible book launch felt... small.
Sound familiar?
This comparison program has been with me for a long time. It's been quietly running in the background, whispering its stories about who's ahead and who's behind, who's worthy and who's not.
Old Laura would have tried to silence this voice completely. She would have fought it, analyzed it, and tried to logic her way out of it.
But what if I don't need to break free? What if it's about harnessing it instead?
The Awareness Game-Changer
I had to get honest about where that voice was coming from. That voice telling me I'm not enough? That's not mine. It's inherited programming that's been passed down through generations who believed they had to earn their worth.
When I caught myself at that moment, I asked: Why am I giving this voice so much attention?
And then I remembered my “why”. I want to have an impact on many other lives because I've experienced this inner peace, and I want everyone else to experience it too. Not because I need to be the biggest or the loudest or have the most followers.
Success isn't about the size of your platform. It's about the depth of your impact.
The 4 A's in Real Time
This whole experience was actually my 4 A's Framework playing out in real life:
Awareness: Catching the comparison program when it activated Attitude: Choosing what meaning to give that story Action: Redirecting my attention back to my mission Alignment: Remembering that I'm already exactly where I need to be
The sooner you realize you'll always have inner work to do, the sooner the real breakthrough happens. The game is already won when you realize you're already it—it's just a process of becoming. Of witnessing yourself in action.
What About You?
What comparison program tries to steal your joy right when life feels too good to be true?
Maybe it's the colleague who seems to have it all figured out.
Maybe it's the person in career transition who's landing opportunities faster or seems effortlessly connected.
Maybe it's the parent who makes motherhood look effortless.
Maybe it's the entrepreneur who launched after you but seems miles ahead.
Here's what I want you to remember: You don't need to break free from these voices. You need to get conscious (aware) of them.
When that familiar voice shows up (and it will), ask yourself:
Is this truth speaking, or old programming running the show?
Is this voice moving me toward my mission or away from it? (Don’t know your mission? Come to the next Pursue Your Purpose workshop)
What would I tell my best friend if they were having this thought?
The most grounded people aren't those who never experience comparison; they're the ones who notice it quickly and choose their response consciously.
Your Next Right Move of Integrity
If this resonates and you're ready to stop letting old programs run your life, I have two ways we can work together:
Ready to dive deep? Join me for my Pursue Your Purpose Workshop, where we'll identify not just your comparison triggers, but the unique gifts and mission that make them irrelevant. Walk away with a personalized workbook that serves as your compass for decisions both personally and professionally, plus a clear 30, 60, and 90-day plan for living with intention. This isn't just about finding purpose; it's about activating a deeper desire in you.
Want to start with a conversation? Book an Activation Call with me. We'll examine what lies beneath the voice that tells you you're not enough, and I'll help you see the path forward with clarity and confidence. If you're in a career transition, this clarity can accelerate your search by months—when you know exactly who you are and what you bring, opportunities start finding you instead of the other way around. Sometimes one conversation is all it takes to shift everything.
That quiet ache of misalignment you feel? It's not asking you to be someone else. It's asking you to be more fully yourself.
The world doesn't need another copy of someone else's success. It needs your authentic contribution.
What's yours going to be?
With deep belief in your magnificence,
Laura
P.S. That author with a million followers? I decided to genuinely celebrate their success instead of using it to diminish mine. Turns out, there's room for all of us to shine. Including you.
